How to determine

How will you know if your child is gay? Please help me by enumerating signs of being gay. I am already doubting my own son.

How to know if your child is gay

I didn't know I myself was gay until I'd been married for nearly 20 years, that's when I figured it out for sure. It took a gentle woman to help realize that I preferred women sexually. But I did realize, years before, that I didn't prefer men sexually. I actually believed I was asexual, not enjoying sex at all. Whoa...was I wrong.

I do remember, as a child, that I thought girls were more beautiful than boys. Boys didn't attract my attention the way girls did, but I didn't think of that in a sexual way.

In high school, I lost my virginity...and didn't think much about it. Ok, sure, there was some pleasure with my boyfriend. He was gentle, and I thought "Oh, this is what it is all about". Nothing to write home about.

I guess I was dense.

My daughter, on the otherhand, knew she was gay when she was a sophomore in high school, before I knew the same about me. She came home from school and announced, "I like girls". And I thought, my husband is going to go apeshit.

He didn't. Shocker!!! He said, "I thought so." So he knew, and I didn't.

I guess the answer is that it differs. It is more important to maintain a great relationship with your child so that they feel comfortable being who they are. My daughter is a perfect example for that. We are very close, and she is very self-aware and confident.

That, IMO, is what matters most.
